Moving to Slovakia

Slovakia is one of the closest foreign destinations we serve from Wrocław. Žilina is nearer than Warsaw, and Bratislava is roughly as far as Gdańsk. As a result, moves to Slovakia are planned much like an intercity move within Poland: no ferries, no customs clearance and often unloading the day after loading.

How we get to Slovakia

For western Slovakia we usually drive through the Czech Republic – on the motorway via Ostrava and Brno, or the shorter road via Kłodzko and Hradec Králové. For central and eastern Slovakia it is easier to go via Katowice and the Cieszyn crossing, or via Kraków and Chyżne. Czech and Slovak motorways are tolled electronically per section driven, and lorry traffic is restricted on Sundays and public holidays.

Because we drive to the Czech Republic regularly, smaller loads for western Slovakia are easier to fit into the schedule. If you are moving a few pieces of furniture and some boxes, ask about dates – sometimes shifting the date by a day or two lowers the cost.

Formalities in Slovakia

These formalities do not apply to your goods. We move furniture and personal belongings from Poland to Slovakia with no customs declarations, and we work under a contract with a VAT invoice. Slovakia uses the euro, which is worth bearing in mind when planning spending on your new home.

Blocks of flats, old town houses and homes in the Tatras

• Petržalka and other Bratislava estates are large prefabricated housing estates with small lifts – very similar to Polish ones, so we know how to dismantle furniture to fit it in the lift car.
• Bratislava's Old Town and central Košice have restricted access and cobbled streets, where unloading requires permission from the city.
• The areas around car plants in Žilina, Trnava and Nitra attract specialists and managers, often to new estates with parking.
• Houses at the foot of the Tatras around Poprad and Liptov mean steep access roads and snow in winter – for such addresses we check access before the moving day.
