Moving to Dresden

Dresden is the nearest large German city for anyone living in Wrocław. The A4 motorway takes you there without a single crossroads, and you cross the border at Jędrzychowice almost without noticing. So we handle moves to Dresden like a longer domestic move – we load in the morning, unload in the afternoon, and the crew is back in Wrocław the same evening.

Moving day on the Wrocław – Dresden route

Dresden is about 270 kilometres from Wrocław. We take the A4 past Legnica and Bolesławiec, through the Jędrzychowice – Ludwigsdorf crossing near Zgorzelec, then the German A4 past Bautzen straight into the city. The drive takes just under three hours by van. That means we move a typical flat in one working day, with no overnight stay for the drivers and no surcharge for an extra day.

Dresden when carrying in furniture

Neustadt and Löbtau

Renovated late 19th-century tenement buildings, wooden stairs and high floors. The gateway often leads to a courtyard, and the vehicle has to park on the street.

Prohlis and Gorbitz

Prefab housing estates, buildings with lifts and large car parks. Unloading usually goes smoothly, although the lifts will not take long items.

Blasewitz and Loschwitz

Villas and houses on the Elbe, steep lanes on the hillsides and narrow driveways. Here we sometimes choose a smaller vehicle to get right up to the door.

Who moves from Wrocław to Dresden

People moving to Dresden include specialists working at the semiconductor plants in the north of the city, researchers and students at TU Dresden, and families in which one person already works in Saxony. Many of them keep their flat in Poland and move only some of their belongings – in that case the smaller load joins a run heading to Germany, and we can take the rest later.

Formalities in Dresden

You can register at one of the city’s citizens’ offices (Bürgerbüro) within two weeks of moving in. It is worth securing parking outside a tenement building with a temporary no-stopping zone. Moving a business or studio to Dresden
