Moving to Nuremberg
Nuremberg is the nearest of the big Bavarian cities if you're driving from Wrocław. Together with Fürth and Erlangen, it forms an area where people work in industry, medical technology, retail and at the universities, and often live in a different city from the one their office is in. Moving to Nuremberg is shorter than routes to the Rhine or Munich, but it has its own challenges: a medieval Old Town surrounded by walls, pedestrian zones and cobbled lanes where the van can't always stop right outside the door.
Two routes to Franconia
Nuremberg is about 600 kilometres away. We most often take the A4 motorway to Dresden, then via Chemnitz on the A72 to Hof, and on along the A9 past Bayreuth. The second option runs through the Czech Republic: via Prague and Pilsen to the Rozvadov crossing, then along the A6 motorway to Nuremberg. Both routes are similar in length, and the choice depends on roadworks and traffic in a given week. We travel this route regularly – trips to Germany and the Czech Republic are part of our everyday work.

Driving time alone in a van is about six to seven hours. With a small load packed in advance, unloading in the evening of the same day is sometimes possible. For a full flat, we plan to set off after loading and unload the next morning.
The walled Old Town
Nuremberg's historic centre is surrounded by defensive walls, and inside it is dominated by narrow lanes, pedestrian zones and buildings rebuilt after the war with very steep stairwells. Some streets can only be entered at certain times or with a permit. For a move to a flat within the walls, we ask for the exact address and a photo of the entrance – that way we can check where the vehicle can stop closest and whether a permit needs to be applied for.

Nuremberg
Tenements in Gostenhof and St. Johannis, blocks in the south of the city, new estates on former industrial land. On trade fair days, the area around the exhibition centre is heavily congested.
Fürth
A neighbouring city linked to Nuremberg by the underground. Plenty of historic sandstone buildings and calmer traffic than in central Nuremberg.
Erlangen and the surrounding area
A university city and a centre of medical technology. Footwear and sportswear companies have their headquarters in nearby Herzogenaurach – we often combine these addresses in a single trip.
Registration and the first few weeks
You have to register within two weeks at the registration office of the city you'll be living in – Nuremberg, Fürth and Erlangen have separate offices, so don't get the address wrong when booking your appointment. Take your ID and the confirmation from your landlord. Moving to Nuremberg – questions
Can a move to Nuremberg be done in one day?
With a small load packed in advance, sometimes yes. We plan a full flat over two days, unloading in the morning.
Can you get to a flat in the Old Town?
Usually yes, but some streets have restricted access. We check this before the date and, if necessary, help you work out which permit to apply for.
Do you cover Fürth and Erlangen?
Yes, the whole area around Nuremberg. We can combine several addresses in the region in a single trip.
Why do you sometimes drive through the Czech Republic?
Because when there are roadworks on the motorways in Saxony, the route via Prague and Rozvadov can be quicker. The choice doesn't change the terms of the move agreed in the contract.
Does transport to Nuremberg require customs clearance?
No. Poland, the Czech Republic and Germany are all in the European Union, so we move your belongings without customs clearance, based on a contract and an inventory.
