Moving in Lubin
Lubin is the capital of the Copper Basin – it is home to the headquarters of KGHM Polska Miedź and one of the group's mines, and for several decades the life of the city has revolved around mining and processing ore. From Wrocław we drive about 80 kilometres to Lubin: along the A4 motorway to Legnica, and then north on the S3 expressway. The journey takes roughly an hour and a quarter. For us, moving in Lubin mainly means moving families who come here for work, and businesses that work with the mining industry.
A city built for mine workers
Most of present-day Lubin was built in the 1960s and 1970s, when the discovery of copper deposits drew in thousands of new residents. Hence the predominance of large estates – Przylesie, Ustronie, Polne and Białe Sady – with prefabricated blocks, both four-storey buildings and tall ones with lifts. The Old Town is small, and new detached houses are being built mainly on the outskirts and in neighbouring villages such as Osiek, Raszowka or Krzeczyn Wielki.
On the large estates, the biggest challenge is the lifts – in older blocks they hold two or three people and nothing more. So we take wardrobes and corner sofas apart, and carry fridges and washing machines down the stairs. When planning a job like this, we allow for an extra person to carry from the outset.

How long does a move from Lubin to Wrocław take?
The drive takes about an hour and a quarter. We move a flat in a block in one day, and a house with packing usually in two.
I live in Przylesie and the lift is very small. What about my furniture?
