Moving in Toruń
Toruń is a university city with one of the best-preserved old towns in Europe – and that is exactly why moving in its centre can be a challenge. We plan Toruń–Wrocław moves with the medieval street layout, the restricted traffic zone and the cramped stairwells of old townhouses in mind. We move flats, houses and offices in both directions, as well as from Toruń to other cities.
How we get from Wrocław to Toruń
We have two tried-and-tested options. The first is the S5 to Poznań and on via Gniezno to Bydgoszcz, from where road no. 10 leads to Toruń – about 330 km in total. The second is the S8 to Piotrków Trybunalski and the A1 motorway north past Łódź and Kutno: a few dozen kilometres longer, but sometimes faster when there are roadworks. We choose the route on the day of departure based on traffic disruption, and give the customer an approximate arrival time.
An Old Town on the UNESCO list
Toruń's Old and New Towns are made up of Gothic townhouses with narrow, steep stairs and granaries converted into flats. Access to the very centre is restricted, and the cobbled streets around Szeroka Street and the Old Town Market Square are full of pedestrians. We often leave the vehicle at the edge of the zone and move belongings on dollies. Furniture wider than the stairwell has to be taken apart while still in the flat, and mirrors and glass carried separately, upright, so they don't catch on the banister.
Before a move in the Old Town
Ask the building manager about the access rules and the hours when the passage may be blocked. Measure the width of the door and the narrowest point on the stairs, and send us a photo of the stairwell with your quote request.
Districts outside the centre
Bydgoskie Przedmieście and Chełmińskie Przedmieście
Tenement buildings and villas from the turn of the 20th century, leafy streets, a paid parking zone. Conditions are similar to the Old Town, but it is easier to find space for the vehicle.
Rubinkowo, Na Skarpie and Koniuchy
Large estates of blocks of flats from the 1970s and 1980s. The tall buildings have lifts, while the four-storey ones usually don't. Car parks fill up in the evening, so we plan unloading before midday.
Jar and Bielany
New developer estates near the university and in a growing part of the city. Students of Nicolaus Copernicus University and young families, underground car parks and barriers.
The left bank and surroundings
Podgórz, Czerniewice and, beyond the city limits, Wielka Nieszawka or Lubicz are areas of houses with gardens. Access over the Vistula bridges can get congested at rush hour.
Students, lecturers, families
On the Toruń–Wrocław route, we often move graduates who found a job in Lower Silesia after studying at Nicolaus Copernicus University, as well as academics changing universities. Can you drive onto the Old Town Market Square?
Access to the heart of the Old Town requires a permit and is restricted to certain hours. We will help you work out what is needed, and if access is not an option, we will unload the vehicle at the edge of the zone.
How long does a move from Toruń to Wrocław take?
The drive takes about four hours. We usually complete a flat with a lift in one day, while an Old Town townhouse or a house often takes two.
I mainly have books and shelves. Is it worth it?
Yes. Books are heavy, but they take up little space in the vehicle. We pack them in smaller boxes and distribute the weight properly.
Can you move furniture from near Toruń to Germany?
