Moving in Bytom

Bytom has one of the most beautiful city centres in Silesia – and also one of the most difficult for moving. Grand turn-of-the-century tenement buildings, no lifts, courtyards behind gateways, and old mine workings underground. So we plan Bytom–Wrocław moves, and moves from Bytom to other regions of Poland, with the stairs and access in mind, not just the motorway drive.

From Wrocław to Bytom

We take the A4 motorway to the Sośnica interchange, where we switch to the A1 and head north to the Bytom exit. The whole route is about 200 km and takes a little over two hours. The final stretch runs through city streets with trams, and some underpasses beneath viaducts have height restrictions – so we check the route to the specific building before setting off.

City centre: high, steep, no lift

The tenement buildings on the Market Square and on Dworcowa, Piekarska and Chrobrego streets have three or four storeys, but each of them is nearly four metres high. A third floor therefore means a long climb with every wardrobe, fridge and box. Such buildings rarely have a lift, and the stairs can be wooden and uneven. When quoting, we always ask about the floor and whether the flat is at the front or in a rear building. This determines the size of the crew and the realistic working time.

Mining damage

In some parts of Bytom, buildings visibly lean and floors are uneven because of past coal mining. For a move, this means wardrobes need levelling during assembly, and furniture on castors can roll away on its own. We keep this in mind when positioning items in your new home and when securing them in the old one.

We often move young families who have found work in Lower Silesia, as well as older people moving closer to their children.
