Moving to London

London is a city where a lorry pays to enter, needs a safety permit and cannot stop on most main roads. So we plan moves to London around the city's rules – from the central charging zone and emission standards to reserving a space in a specific borough. 4RELO from Wrocław takes care of packing, transport, customs clearance and carrying your furniture into your London home.

Vehicle charges and zones in London

RuleWho it applies toWhat it means for your move
Congestion Chargevehicles entering central London while the zone is in operationa daily charge added for central addresses
ULEZ and LEZthe whole of Greater Londonthe lorry must meet emission standards or pay a high daily charge
Direct Vision Standardgoods vehicles over 12 ta permit confirming visibility from the cab is required
Red routesmain roads managed by TfLno stopping – unloading only in designated places

For moves in London we use vehicles that meet the zone requirements, and entry charges are included in the quote. For addresses right in the centre, a smaller vehicle that parks more easily in a narrow street often makes sense.

Suspending a parking bay in your borough

London is divided into 32 boroughs and the City, and each one issues its own parking bay suspensions for moves. The application has to be made several days, sometimes a couple of weeks, in advance, and it is usually the resident who submits it. We provide the vehicle details and unloading times so that the application is complete.

London buildings from the inside

Victorian terrace

A house converted into flats, a narrow hallway, steep stairs and a basement flat. Large furniture often has to be dismantled before it can be carried in.

Mansion block

Turn-of-the-century red-brick blocks with a small lift or none at all. The width of the stairwell and its turns is what counts.

New apartment building

Canary Wharf, Stratford, Nine Elms – a concierge, booking the goods lift and loading bay, usually within a strictly defined time slot.

In new buildings the managing agent often asks the moving company for proof of insurance before letting the crew in. Our business is covered by third-party liability insurance up to PLN 500,000 – we will send the certificate before the moving day.

From Wrocław to London

The journey is around 1,400 kilometres through Germany and Belgium to Calais, and we cross the Channel by Eurotunnel or by ferry to Dover. Including customs clearance, delivery usually takes two to three days. Furniture and personal belongings enter duty-free under the relief for people moving to the United Kingdom – we explain the paperwork on our customs clearance page.

If you are moving an office, studio or company archive to London, see our office relocation page. There we describe how we plan relocation in stages, without interrupting your work.

London – frequently asked questions

Who pays the charge for entering central London?

Zone charges for our vehicle are included in the quote. You do not need to register anything separately, unless you are bringing your own car.

Can I bring my car to London?

Yes, but a car is subject to separate customs rules and must meet London's emission standards to be driven around the city without daily charges. Check this before you decide.

What if I do not get a parking bay suspension?

Then we find the nearest legal unloading spot and plan for longer carrying or a smaller vehicle. This affects working time, so it is better to apply early.

Can you carry furniture into a basement flat?

Yes. We measure the stairs down and the doors from photos, and furniture that will not fit is dismantled before it is carried in.

Do you move from London to Poland?

Yes, we handle return moves in the same way, including customs clearance on the EU side.

Already know your London address?

Tell us the borough and type of building – we will choose the vehicle, the crossing and the unloading date.
