Moving to Munich
Munich attracts people with jobs in the automotive industry, IT and insurance, but it has the most expensive housing market in Germany. That changes how you plan: flats are hard to find, the tenancy starts on a specific day and there is no question of moving it. By van, that is eight to nine hours of driving without breaks. We usually leave Wrocław in the evening after loading, the drivers rest on the way, and we start unloading the next morning – it is easier to find parking outside your building then, and we do not carry furniture in after dark.
What to prepare for in Munich
Parking suspension from the KVR
A temporary no-stopping zone for moving day is issued by the city’s Kreisverwaltungsreferat. In densely built-up districts such as Schwabing, Maxvorstadt or Haidhausen, without one a lorry has nowhere to park.
Low-emission zone
The Umweltzone covers the area inside the Mittlerer Ring, so it applies to most addresses in the centre. Only vehicles with a green sticker may enter.
Small flats, expensive square metres
With high rents, many people move into a smaller home than they had in Poland. It is worth measuring the rooms beforehand and deciding which furniture stays – moving a wardrobe that will not fit in the alcove is money wasted.
Flats without a kitchen
In Bavaria, rental flats often come without a fitted kitchen. If you order a kitchen in Poland, it can travel with your move, and we will deliver the components for the fitter.
When you only get the keys in a month
A common scenario in Munich goes like this: the job starts on the first of the month, the client spends a few weeks in a company flat or a furnished room, and gets the permanent home later. In that case, we collect your belongings from Poland on a convenient date and keep them in storage until the day you get your keys. The area around Munich
Many families choose cheaper towns around the city: Freising, Dachau, Erding or Starnberg. Access and parking are simpler there, and unloading a terraced house usually takes less time than a tenement flat in the centre.
