Moving in the Old Town, Wrocław
A flat overlooking the Market Square or premises on Kuznicza Street is a dream for many people – until the day a wardrobe has to be carried in. The very centre has access restrictions, pedestrian streets, narrow roads and tenement buildings where nobody ever thought about lifts. So we start moving in the Old Town, Wrocław not with the vehicle, but by checking how and when it is possible to get to the building at all.
Access to the centre – what needs to be arranged
The area around the Market Square, Salt Square and Swidnicka, Olawska and Ruska Streets includes restricted traffic zones and pedestrian streets. Deliveries there are only possible at set times or with a permit. Before we book a date, we check whether a delivery vehicle can get to the address, at what times and whether a permit is needed. For a longer stop on the road, it is often necessary to formally reserve that part of the carriageway – the application is submitted to the city roads authority in advance.
Access first, then the date
For addresses in the very centre, the start time is set by the access rules, not by convenience. That is why we only confirm the date once access has been arranged.
Parts of the Old Town
| Area | Character | Main difficulty |
|---|---|---|
| The Market Square and surroundings | historic tenement buildings, commercial premises | restricted access, pedestrian streets, carrying from a distance |
| Sand Island and around Nowy Targ | tenement buildings and post-war housing | narrow streets, tourist crowds |
| Szczepin | blocks, tenement buildings and new estates by the Oder | heavy traffic on Legnicka Street, full car parks |
| Świdnica Suburb | tenement buildings and office blocks | paid parking zone, one-way streets |
| Oława Suburb | tenement buildings with courtyards | narrow gateways, high floors with no lift |
Carrying from further away
In the very centre, the vehicle often can't stop right outside the door. Furniture and boxes then have to cover a longer distance on foot – along a pedestrian street, through a courtyard or a passage between buildings. We plan for this in advance: we choose the number of people so that part of the crew carries while the rest loads, and we use transport trolleys wherever the surface allows. The cobbles around the Market Square are not kind to wheels, so we carry delicate items by hand. It is also worth choosing a time when the pedestrian streets are quietest and the café terraces are not yet set out.
Commercial premises and offices in the centre
In the Old Town we move not just flats, but also cafés, practices, studios and small offices. Moves like these are best done early in the morning, before the streets fill up with people, or on a day when the premises are closed. You can read more about our services for businesses under office relocation.
Flats in tenement buildings with no lift
High ceilings mean long flights of stairs, and old stairwells have tight turns. We take wardrobes and beds apart before carrying them out, heavy furniture is handled by at least two people, and we protect the banisters and stairwell walls. If your new flat isn't ready yet, your belongings can wait in our warehouse.
Moving in the Old Town – questions
Can you drive into the Market Square?
Only at the times and on the terms permitted by the rules for that particular street. We check this before setting the date.
Who arranges the reservation of the carriageway?
The application is usually submitted by the customer or the building manager, and we advise on what details to provide and for how long. It is worth doing it in advance.
Does carrying from a distance increase the cost?
Yes, because it lengthens the working time or requires a larger crew. That is why we ask about the distance from the parking spot when preparing the quote.
Can you move commercial premises at night?
We work early in the morning or while the premises are closed, as far as the regulations and building rules allow.
