Moving in Gdańsk

It is a long way from Wrocław to the Motława – almost the full width of Poland. Even so, Gdańsk–Wrocław moves are one of 4RELO's regular routes: people relocate for jobs in the ports, shipyards and tech companies, and others return from Pomerania to be closer to family in Lower Silesia. We move flats, houses and offices in both directions, in one vehicle, with no transfer.

The route via Poznań, Bydgoszcz and the A1

Most often we take the S5 expressway via Poznań and Bydgoszcz, and from Nowe Marzy the A1 motorway all the way to Gdańsk. That is about 480 km – a full day on the road for a loaded vehicle, including breaks. The A1 section from Nowe Marzy to Rusocin is a toll road. An alternative is sometimes the S8 to Piotrków and the A1 via Toruń – the choice depends on the time of day and roadworks.

Main Town and Wrzeszcz

In the Main Town, some streets are pedestrianised with restricted access, and the townhouses on Długa and Mariacka streets have narrow, steep stairs. Wrzeszcz is dominated by pre-war tenement buildings with wooden stairwells, where wardrobes have to be carried in in parts. The paid parking zone covers Śródmieście and Wrzeszcz, so parking outside the building needs to be planned.

Przymorze and Zaspa

The wave-shaped blocks in Przymorze are buildings with more than a dozen entrances and long access galleries. The walk from the vehicle to the right entrance can be long, and the lifts only stop every few floors. Zaspa, in turn, has ten-storey blocks with cramped lifts, where we take most furniture apart.

Southern Gdańsk

Łostowice, Ujeścisko, Jasień and Kowale are new estates where most people from outside the Tricity move to. Here, what matters is booking the lift with the building manager and arranging vehicle access to the estate.

Oliwa, Jelitkowo and the university area

In Oliwa and near the border with Sopot, houses, low tenements and older villas predominate – the crew has more room on the driveway, but the furniture tends to be heavy and old. The area around the University of Technology and the University of Gdańsk, on the other hand, is full of student flats, where the load is a few boxes, a desk and a bike – a smaller vehicle is enough here.

The seaside season

From late June to August, the roads to Pomerania are packed and tourist traffic in Gdańsk increases. If you can choose your date, a move in May, September or October goes more smoothly and it is easier to get a convenient day.
