Moving to Denmark
Denmark is closer than you might think: Copenhagen is fewer kilometres from Wrocław than Paris, and part of the journey is by ferry. Moving to Denmark does, however, mean deciding which way to go, because the country is a peninsula and several hundred islands linked by bridges and crossings. 4RELO from Wrocław matches the route to the address – the way to Copenhagen is different from the way to Aarhus in Jutland.

The shortest way to Copenhagen is via Rostock – around 730 kilometres including the Danish stretch. To Aarhus and Odense we drive entirely overland, through Germany and across the border at Flensburg, which is roughly a thousand kilometres. With every option the ferry or bridge crossing is charged and included in the quote, and we book the ferry for your specific loading day.
Formalities: registration and the CPR number
We move furniture and personal belongings from Poland to Denmark free of duty and with no customs clearance, as both countries are in the European Union. The real formalities begin after you arrive, and they determine how quickly you can settle into everyday life.
- An EU citizen staying in Denmark longer than three months applies for an EU registration certificate.
- With the certificate and your lease you go to the citizen service centre for a CPR number. Without it you cannot open a bank account, receive your salary or register with a doctor.
- Together with the CPR number you receive a health insurance card with an assigned GP.
- Any later change of address in Denmark must be reported within a few days – even a move within the same city.
A car in Denmark – think before you bring it
Denmark has one of the highest car registration taxes in Europe. A resident bringing a car in permanently must register it on Danish plates and pay this tax. For many families it makes more sense to sell the car in Poland and switch to a bike in Copenhagen, which we will move together with your furniture.
Copenhagen apartment blocks and Danish houses

Blocks of several storeys around courtyards, with no lift or a very small one. The stairs are narrow, so we often bring furniture in through the window with a furniture lift and reserve a space on a street full of bikes.
Aarhus, Odense and the suburbs
Terraced and detached houses with a driveway. Lorry access is easy, and the move goes faster than in the capital.
Danish rental flats are handed back after a thorough inspection, often with the walls repainted. How long does a move from Wrocław to Copenhagen take?
Usually one day of loading and one, sometimes two, days on the road, depending on the ferry time. We give the delivery date once the crossing is booked.
Is it better to go by ferry or overland?
To Copenhagen by ferry via Rostock, to Jutland and Funen overland. The destination address decides, not habit.
Do I need a CPR number before the move?
No. You will get the number after arrival, once you have an address in Denmark. For the transport, a contract with us is enough.
Can you move a cargo bike?
Yes. We protect large bikes separately and secure them in the load space; it helps to give their dimensions when you ask for a quote.
