Moving in Kłodzko
Kłodzko is the gateway to the Kłodzko Valley – a town on the Eastern Neisse, dominated by a mighty fortress, with a Gothic bridge and an old town climbing up the hillside. From Wrocław, national road no. 8 takes you here: about 90 kilometres, or an hour and a half's drive via Ząbkowice Śląskie and the Kłodzko Pass. Moving in Kłodzko, however, means more than the town itself: it covers the whole mountainous hinterland of the valley, with its spa towns, villages on the slopes and roads that are no joke in winter.
The old town below the fortress
Kłodzko's Old Town was built on the slope of the hill on which the fortress stands. The streets are steep, winding and often cobbled, and the tenement buildings stand close together, with narrow stairwells and wooden stairs. A large vehicle cannot get in everywhere, and even when it can, it cannot always turn round. That is why we usually drive into the old town with a smaller vehicle, and for larger moves we arrange a transfer from a big lorry parked on level ground below. This is safer for your furniture and for the crew than a risky manoeuvre on sloping cobbles.
The Kłodzko Valley – places we travel to
Spa towns
Polanica-Zdrój, Duszniki-Zdrój, Kudowa-Zdrój and Lądek-Zdrój. Villas, guesthouses and turn-of-the-century houses, often with high floors and narrow entrances. In the high season, we set dates taking into account the flow of spa guests and tourists.
Small mountain towns
Bystrzyca Kłodzka, Nowa Ruda, Stronie Śląskie and Międzylesie. Mixed housing: tenements, communist-era blocks of flats and houses on the outskirts, with many uphill streets.
Villages and hamlets
Houses scattered across the slopes, reached by narrow local roads, sometimes gravel ones. Here, before the move, we always ask for photos or come to check the access ourselves.
Kłodzko
The old town below the fortress, estates of blocks of flats in the lower part of town and detached houses on the outskirts. Most of our jobs here are moves to Wrocław and back.
Winter in the valley and your moving date
The Kłodzko Valley has noticeably harsher winters than Wrocław. When it is raining in the city, there may be half a metre of snow in Stronie Śląskie or Zieleniec, and the road over the Kłodzko Pass can ice over. For moves between December and March, we allow a spare day, check the forecast several days ahead and ask you to clear the snow from the driveway. We would rather move the date by a day than risk skidding with a full load on a hairpin bend.
After the floods that hit the valley in 1997 and 2024, many families are renovating their homes or moving to higher ground. In such cases, we offer storage for your furniture during the renovation and deliver it once the house is ready.
What the cost depends on
| Factor | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Distance | about 90 km to Kłodzko, and up to several dozen more further into the valley |
| Access | steep, narrow roads may require a smaller vehicle or a transfer |
| Time of year | in winter we allow extra time |
| Volume and building | tall tenement with no lift, house on a slope, block of flats |
| Storage | during a renovation or while waiting for a new home |
You can work out the volume of your belongings with our calculator and send your enquiry via the contact form. It is best to attach photos of the access road and the building entrance.
Kłodzko – moving questions
Can you drive into Kłodzko's old town?
With a smaller vehicle, usually yes. For a bigger load, the large lorry stays lower down and we transfer or carry your belongings. We agree this before the move.
How long does a move from Wrocław to Polanica-Zdrój take?
The drive takes roughly an hour and a half to two hours. We move a flat in one day, and a house with difficult access in two.
Do you carry out moves in the mountains in winter?
Yes, but with time to spare and after checking the forecast. If conditions are dangerous, we suggest moving the date.
I'm renovating my house after the flood. Can you store my furniture?
Yes. We will take it to our warehouse in Wrocław and bring it back once the renovation is finished.
Do you move people from the Kłodzko Valley to the Czech Republic?
Yes. The Czech Republic is right next door and we travel there regularly. There is no customs clearance within the EU, so all it takes is good planning of the date.
